Republicans in the Florida House are planning to hold a private meeting to discuss this year’s contentious session of the Legislature. The GOP majority is planning to meet today. The meeting comes while there is a budget stalemate between the House and Senate. The two sides have passed rival budgets that are $4 billion apart. A spokeswoman for the House Majority Office said the meeting did not have to be open under House rules. Kristen McDonald said the meeting will be “an update” on where legislators are “procedurally.” The state constitution requires meetings to be open if three or more legislators are discussing pending legislation. Because of the budget stalemate, it appears that the House and Senate will end the 60-day session without passing a new state budget.
