Florida Brush Fire Damages 4 Homes

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) _ Firefighters are mopping up after a 120-acre wildfire that started at St. Lucie County International Airport and prompted some homeowners to evacuate.

Florida Forest Service wildfire mitigation specialist Melissa Yunas says a preliminary assessment shows four homes were damaged in Sunday’s fire.

She says residents will still see some active flames glowing in the woods on Monday.

Officials shut down Indrio Road late Sunday afternoon as wind gusts of more than 30 miles per hour fanned the flames.

She said the fire was 90 percent contained around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night.

Officials warned of smoke problems and downed power lines Monday and urged drivers to use caution.
