MAN GETS 3+ YEARS PRISON IN STUDENT ID TAX FRAUD

A South Florida man will serve more than three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to using stolen student identities to file fraudulent income tax returns. Federal prosecutors said Monday that 34-year-old Donald Claude of Miramar also was ordered by a judge to pay more than $210,000 in restitution to the U.S. government.

MAN ARRESTED FOR STABBING 2 WOMEN IN JACKSONVILLE

Police have arrested a suspect in the stabbings of two women at a Jacksonville hotel that left one dead and the other in critical condition. Jacksonville police say 30-year-old Chad Hurst is being held on charges of murder and attempted murder for the Saturday stabbings. Police arrived at a hotel on Baymeadows Road at around 4:30 a.m. and found one of the victims stabbed several times in a room. The second stabbing victim was in critical condition at UF Health Jacksonville.

11,000 TIRES REMOVED FROM PASCO COUNTY PROPERTY

For the last decade and a half, mosquitoes have thrived in a pile of more than 11,000 illegally dumped tires on a tree-shaded lot in rural Pasco County. A county cleanup crew began removing the tires Monday. The site had become a public health threat due to the mosquitoes. Officials say an elderly woman used to live on the site, and when a man asked her if he could begin a tire recycling business there, she agreed. He dumped thousands of tires on the land but never recycled them.

SOUTH FLORIDA TEEN ELECTROCUTED WHILE RETRIEVING BASKETBALL

A teenager is dead after jumping a fence at a Florida Power & Light substation to fetch a ball while playing basketball at a Miami park. Officials say the body of 17-year-old Jesus Meneses was recovered Monday evening. WSVN reports electric current was still running through the teen’s body when they arrived so they had to wait until power to the grid was shut down before reaching him. The teen was a senior at Coral Gables High School.

MAN FATALLY SHOT BY POLICE IN HIALEAH

Police officers fatally shot an armed man in the parking lot of a Hialeah shopping center. The shooting occurred Monday in the Westland Commons parking lot. Police spokesman Carl Zogby told the Miami Herald the shooting happened after an exchange of words between the officers and the man. He says the shooting is under investigation.
