RULING PUTS PRESSURE ON FLA. ATTORNEY GENERAL
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi isn’t saying what she will do in the wake of a U.S. Supreme Court decision to turn away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit gay and lesbian union. Florida’s existing ban on gay marriage isn’t directly affected by the Monday decision. But Bondi has said previously she wanted the high court to resolve the outstanding legal questions surrounding the ban. A spokesman for Bondi said Monday her office is “reviewing the impact” of the decision.
CRIST REMINDS VOTERS OF FRAUD AT SCOTT’S COMPANY
Republican-turned-Democrat former Gov. Charlie Crist’s campaign isn’t letting voters forget that Republican Gov. Rick Scott ran a hospital chain that paid a $1.7 billion in fines for Medicaid and Medicare fraud. The strategy didn’t work four years ago when Scott first won office, but Crist’s campaign won’t let the issue go away. On Monday, it brought one of the original whistleblowers who exposed Columbia/HCA’s fraud to talk to reporters.

THIRD CASE OF WEST NILE CONFIRMED IN CENTRAL FLORIDA
Health officials have issued an alert after a third person was diagnosed with West Nile virus in Volusia County. Officials said in a statement Monday “there is a heightened concern additional residents will become ill.” The alert issued urges residents to take extra precaution to avoid mosquitoes. West Nile is most commonly transmitted to human by mosquitoes.
DOLPHINS’ LINEMAN SUSPENDED IN WAKE OF ARREST
Miami Dolphins reserve defensive lineman Derrick Shelby was suspended indefinitely in the wake of his arrest on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and trespassing at a nightclub. Shelby was suspended hours before Monday’s practice for conduct detrimental to the team. Coach Joe Philbin said he talked with Shelby, and said the Dolphins will gather more information before making a final determination on disciplinary action.
