NEW TRIAL SET IN LOUD MUSIC KILLING

A Florida man accused of killing a teenager during an argument over loud music will face a second murder trial after jurors at his original trial deadlocked on the charge, a judge decided Monday. Forty-seven-year-old Michael Dunn will be tried on first degree murder charges in in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis on Sept. 22.

SARASOTA DAD ARRESTED AFTER BABY DIES IN HOT CAR

A Sarasota man is charged with aggravated manslaughter after police officers say he left a 2-year-old child in the car. She died Sunday, hours after he went inside his house to get a phone charger and fell asleep

FORMER FLORIDA STATE PRESIDENT STANLEY MARSHALL DIES

Former Florida State President J. Stanley Marshall has died. He was 91. A spokeswoman at the James Madison Institute confirmed that Marshall passed Sunday at home in the Westminster Oaks retirement community in Tallahassee after suffering from illness in recent years. Marshall was named Florida State president in 1969 and served for seven years. He founded the James Madison Institute in 1987.

JUSTICES LET STAND $70 MILLION IN AWARDS TO SMOKERS

The U.S. Supreme has turned away appeals from cigarette manufacturers of more than $70 million in court judgments to Florida smokers.

BUTTERFLIES TO BE RELEASED IN PARK

Some rare butterflies are set to be released on an island in Biscayne National Park. Researchers are scheduled to release some Schaus’ swallowtail butterflies Monday on Elliot Key.
