JUDGE WON’T LIFT FLORIDA KEYS GAY MARRIAGE STAY

Florida Keys judge who last week ruled the state’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional has denied a request to permit gay couples to marry in Monroe County over a pending state appeal. Monroe County Circuit Judge Luis Garcia denied a motion Monday asking to lift an automatic stay triggered by the appeal. The judge ruled last week that the ban on same-sex marriage added to the state constitution by Florida voters in 2008 is discriminatory and violates gay people’s right to equal treatment under the law.

BOY FOUND DEAD ON TAMPA ROAD

Tampa police say a 4-year-old boy is dead after being found on a road. Dispatchers received a call around 9:45 p.m. Sunday regarding a child in the road. A witness told officers the child “came from a car.” Detectives are looking at video on red light and business cameras in the area for any clues about what happened. They say the suspect vehicle is possible a green Ford Expedition.

COMPLAINTS AGAINST CRIST AND SCOTT TOSSED OUT

A flurry of election-year complaints contending that the two leading candidates for governor are flouting Florida’s campaign finance laws are getting tossed out. Since March, supporters of both former Gov. Charlie Crist and Gov. Rick Scott have filed a long list of complaints with both the state’s ethics commission and the panel that deals with election law violations.

BOY INJURED ON DISNEY RIDE IN APRIL

A report says a 12-year-old boy suffered cuts to four fingers on Walt Disney World’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride, three months before a British tourist had a similar accident. The report made public Monday by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services shows the boy lacerated his fingers in mid-April. No other details were released. A Disney spokesman said he didn’t have immediate details on the accident but was looking into it.

1 MAN DEAD IN SMALL PLANE CRASH OFF ELLIOT KEY

A man is dead following a small plane crash off Elliot Key near Miami. Miami-Dade police say the crash happened Sunday afternoon about 200 feet off shore. The Marine Patrol division located the crash site, where they found the plane submerged in the water. Divers found the body inside the plane. Officials have identified the victim as 51-year-old Ricardo Laporta Barboza of Coral Gables.
