POLICE SAY CENTRAL FLORIDA MAN BEAT GIRLFRIEND, HER MOTHER TO DEATH WITH BAT, THEN DROWNED HIMSELF
Authorities say James Jones used a baseball bat to beat his girlfriend and her mother to death before running away and drowning himself in a Tavares lake. His girlfriend’s brother also was injured in the attack, and he underwent surgery Tuesday morning. Jones was confronted by officers, and police said he ran away and then drowned himself in a nearby lake. According to a police report, Jones’ father told detectives that Jones was schizophrenic and had stopped taking his medication.
FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT FROM KUWAIT FOUND DEAD IN FLORIDA PANHANDLE RIVER
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Saud Alajmi was one of several Florida State students that had been visiting the river near Altha. Two passers-by alerted authorities to the body they found Saturday in about 10 feet of water near a bridge west of Altha.
MILITARY GIVES NEW F-35 JET LIMITED OK AFTER FIRE AT FLORIDA PANHANDLE BASE
The U.S. Navy and Air Force have approved a limited return to flight for their new-generation F-35 fighter jet. The Pentagon announced on Tuesday that Navy and Air Force officials approved the flight resumption on Monday but imposed restrictions that will remain in effect until the cause of a June 23 engine fire is identified and corrected. The entire fleet of nearly 100 planes was grounded after the fire at Eglin Air Force Base.
TENNESSEE MAN BITTEN BY SHARK IN THE WATERS OFF FLORIDA’S PANHANDLE
Authorities say a Tennessee man was hospitalized after being bitten by a shark in the waters off Florida’s Panhandle. The man told authorities that he was bait fishing Monday afternoon in waist-deep water off Okaloosa Island when he was bitten. Authorities say the man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that needed stitches.
