A man wanted in a double shooting was fatally shot by Jacksonville officers who believed he was pointing a gun at them as they tried to serve an arrest warrant. Police say the object in the suspect’s hands was a black sock with a box inside it.

Two alleged victims of a registered sex offender have filed a lawsuit seeking damages after the man won a $3 million Florida Lottery jackpot. Timothy Poole purchased the ticket; he was accused of sexually battering a 9-year-old boy in 1999.
FLORIDA’S MINIMUM WAGE RISES TO $8.05 AN HOUR STARTING ON JAN. 1; CURRENTLY IS $7.93
The state’s minimum wage is scheduled to rise 12 cents per hour on Jan. 1, the result of a 2004 constitutional amendment requiring the wage to be readjusted each year based on the rate of inflation. It will now be $8.05 hourly.

A record 30 endangered Florida panthers died this year. Most were struck by vehicles in southwest Florida, which is home to most of the estimated 180 panthers prowling a sliver of their former range.
