North Florida couple arrested for faking docs claim home

Authorities say a couple used forged documents to claim ownership of a lavish home on 200 acres in north Florida worth more than $1 million. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said 24-year-old Justin Dean and his wife, 23-year-old Jenna Dean, were arrested on charges of grand theft, forgery and other charges. Authorities were alerted by an attorney, Timothy Kelly, who completes real estate transactions for a bank. The sheriff’s office found that the Deans used forged documents to try and take the house, which had been in foreclosure.

President Clinton, Carlos Slim among those at Latam summit

Former President Bill Clinton is bringing together leaders from across the hemisphere for a discussion on the future of the Americas. The event includes business leaders like Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, The Nature Conservancy CEO Mark Tercek and Alfonso Quinonez, of the Organization of American States. The meeting at the University of Miami includes public panels with Clinton, Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and University President Donna Shalala.

Florida citrus forecast unchanged in December

Citrus growers in Florida say the unchanged forecast for the month of December is a sign that the industry is stabilizing in the face of the citrus greening disease. The monthly forecast released Wednesday was unchanged from the previous two months.The estimate puts this season’s orange forecast at 108 million boxes. Each box of oranges weighs 90 pounds. Florida’s grapefruit crop also was unchanged from the previous month at 15 million boxes.

THREE KILLED IN LATE-NIGHT CRASH WEST OF MIAMI

Authorities say three people died and another was injured in a crash on Tamiami Trail Wednesday night. The road was shut down well into the night as the Florida Highway Patrol investigated the two-vehicle crash.

MARLINS TRADE PITCHING PROSPECT, OTHERS TO DODGERS FOR SPEEDY DEE GORDON

The Miami Marlins acquired All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon from the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitching prospect Andrew Heaney, pitcher Chris Hatcher, infielder Kike Hernandez and catcher Austin Barnes. The Dodgers then traded Heaney to the Los Angeles Angels for second baseman Howie Kendrick. Baseball’s winter meetings wrap up Thursday in San Diego.
