FLORIDA GOV. SCOTT PLEDGES MAJOR SPENDING ON ENVIROMENTAL PROGRAMS IF HE IS RE-ELECTED

Florida Gov. Rick Scott is pledging to spend hundreds of millions on environmental programs if he’s re-elected to a second term. Scott is scheduled to roll out his environmental platform during a campaign stop Monday in Martin County. Democratic candidate for governor Charlie Crist has criticized Scott’s environmental record.

TRIAL IN FLORIDA STUDENT’S SLAYING SET FOR MONDAY

The trial of a Miami man charged in the 2012 death of a University of Florida student is set to start Monday. Pedro Bravo, 20, faces life in prison if convicted of killing 18-year-old Christian Aguilar.

PORTMIAMI TUNNEL IS OPEN TRAFFIC

PortMiami’s $1 billion under-the-bay tunnel is officially open to traffic. The Sunday opening came a day earlier than anticipated. The tunnel was dedicated by Gov. Rick Scott on May 19. But the opening was delayed various repairs.

TEEN ACCUSED IN HOMELESS MAN’S DEATH

A 13-year-old southwest Florida boy is charged with the second-degree murder of a homeless man. Police say the teen was arrested at his home on Sunday and was being held without bond. The 51-year-old man was found dead on Saturday morning.

MAN FATALLY STRUCK BY TRI-RAIL TRAIN

A northbound Tri-Rail train struck and killed a man north of Miami. Officials say the incident happened Sunday morning just north of the Golden Glades station, causing commuters long delays as the area was cleaned up and investigated.
