NEW MAP FOR CONGRESS GOES BEFORE FLORIDA JUDGE

A Florida judge is going to review a new congressional map approved by the state Legislature. Circuit Judge Terry Lewis is scheduled to hear arguments Wednesday on whether the map approved last week by legislators is constitutional. Lewis earlier this summer ruled that congressional districts drawn up in 2012 were illegal because they were drawn to benefit Republicans.

HACKERS STEAL INFO OF 4.5M HOSPITAL PATIENTS

A company that operates hospitals in north Florida says Chinese hackers have stolen the personal information of 4.5 million patients over the past five years. Community Health Systems said Monday that hackers stole the names, addresses, birth dates, Social Security numbers and telephone numbers of people who were treated at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala and Shands hospitals in Starke, Live Oak and Lake City.

FLORIDA CITIES LEAD NATION IN CASH DEALS FOR HOMES

Six Florida cities lead the nation in all-cash sales of homes. A report released Tuesday by the RealtyTrac research firm says South Florida was at the top of the list. Just under two-thirds of all home sales there were done in cash in the second quarter of this year. South Florida was followed by the Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, Lakeland and Orlando areas.

ALLEGED POACHER OF 300 TURTLE EGGS IS ARRESTED

Officials say nearly 300 sea turtle eggs have been reburied after being found in the possession of a poacher. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that it received a tip Friday of a man who appeared to be taking turtle eggs from a St. Lucie County beach. Authorities say 55-year-old James Odel McGriff of Riviera Beach was arrested after locating a disturbed turtle nest and a backpack full of eggs.

2 FORMER RESORT EXECUTIVES SENTENCED TO PRISON

Two former financial executives of a beach resort on Florida’s Gulf coast were sentenced to three years in prison for embezzlement. Former Tradewinds Islands Resorts CFO Sam Baage and former technology director Harold William James were each sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday. They also must pay a combined $300,000 in restitution to the hotel’s insurance company and $38,000 to the Tradewinds itself.
