TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (AP) — The students at Corpus Christi Catholic School went right to the top when they stated planning for the school’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebration.
They invited Pope Francis to Saturday’s Jubilee Mass.
Principal Carmen Caltagirone told The Tampa Tribune that the kids are proud of their school and she figured “why not” when they wanted to invited the pope. All 247 students from kindergarten to eighth grade penned invitations to the pope.
The invitations were mailed in December, but they haven’t heard from the Vatican.
Monsignor Paul Tighe of the Pontifical Council for Social Communication told the Tribune the invites are likely buried under a mountain of mail received during the holidays. But he promises the students will get a response. Just not in time for the mass.
