FL Man Indicted in N.O. Tax Fraud Scheme

NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ A Florida man has been charged in New Orleans with engaging in a tax fraud scheme.

A federal grand jury on Friday indicted 48-year-old Yahia Asad, of Tallahassee, Fla., on one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Prosecutors said the scheme involved filing false tax returns using the stolen identities of people who were dead or imprisoned.

Asad was arrested on a criminal complaint and made his initial court appearance in New Orleans on March 1.

He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if he is convicted of the charge.
