FL Legislature Special Session Set For June

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ The Florida Legislature will hold a June special session to pass a new state budget, but what will be included in that budget is still undecided.

House and Senate leaders on Wednesday told members to return to the state Capitol from June 1 to June 20 for a special session.

But Senate President Andy Gardiner and House Speaker Steve Crisafulli have not yet released an official proclamation that spells out what items will be voted on during the 20-day session.

This year’s session fell apart after the House abruptly adjourned three and a half days early.

The two chambers are at odds over health care spending and whether the state should extend coverage to 800,000 Floridians. House leaders are opposed to Medicaid expansion.

Legislators must pass a budget by June 30 to avoid a government shutdown.
