Damage To Recycling Plant Totals $700,000

Tampa Fire Marshal’s office investigator has released a preliminary report on the fire that took place yesterday at the RockTenn recycling plant located at 5111 N. 26th St.

According to the report the fire occurred during an offload of cardboard meant for processing at the plant. The offload was nearly complete when one of the bundles caught fire shortly after being placed in a staging area prior to processing. The fire quickly spread to surrounding paper, plastic and cardboard products due to proximity and high winds. The actual cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Estimated damage to the plant site including the recycling goods is $700,000.
