Fall from Panama hotel balcony kills Tampa man

A Tampa man died early Sunday after falling from the seventh floor of a hotel, authorities said.

Aaron Scott Thompson, 22, fell to the roof of the second floor of the Holiday Inn Resort about 9:20 p.m. Saturday, according to Panama City Beach police.

He was taken to a hospital and later declared dead.

Thompson, who moved to Florida about nine months ago, had been fighting with several people including his uncle, Roger William Thompson, 52, of Tampa and police were called.

A hotel security guard told Aaron Thompson to not leave the area, according to a police report. But he tried to climb down a railing and fell, police told the Panama City News-Herald.

Aaron Thompson was a Kalamazoo, Mich., native who moved to Tampa in March to live with his uncle and look for work, his mother, Shelly Beduna, told the News-Herald. He and his uncle were in Panama City Beach with friends for a short vacation.

Since he moved to Florida, his newest hobby was walking on the beach to find sea shells, his mother told the newspaper.
