Ten years after the blueprints were drawn up, the Federal Aviation Administration’s plan to make air traffic control more efficient is finally showing results. The program, known as NextGen, relies upon collaboration between the FAA and the airline industry to cut aircraft fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, especially around the nation’s busiest airline hubs.
