Ex-Tampa Cops Indicted For Tax Fraud

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ Two former Tampa police detectives have been indicted on federal tax fraud charges.

The Tampa Tribune reports that Eric and LaJoyce Houston turned themselves in to U.S. Marshals Wednesday and are scheduled to be arraigned in the afternoon.

Authorities disclosed in court documents evidence of tax refund fraud being committed by a close circle of former Tampa police employees.

The indictment details thousands of dollars in fraudulent tax refunds used to pay credit card and pool service bills for the Houstons.

Details of the investigation were contained in a search warrant affidavit filed in May, which detailed evidence suggesting Houston took personal information from homicide victims and police databases and used the data for tax fraud.
