The trial of the former Clearwater Fire Chief, Jamie Geer, is set for opening statements this morning.
Geer is accused of sexually molesting a young girl over a period of about nine years.
Prosecutors say the former longtime firefighter abused the girl from when she was 8 or 9 until she turned 17.
Geer is accused of giving the girl, a relative who spent time in his care, gifts in exchange for sexual favors.
The girl is expected to testify today.
It’s not known yet whether Geer will testify.
If convicted, he faces life in prison.
