Floods Spur Evacuations in Elfers

Voluntary evacuations are underway in the tiny Pasco County town of Elfers, as floodwaters from the Anclote River continue to inundate streets and and threaten homes there.

A flood warning for the area has been extended through July 30th with more heavy rains expected.

County officials are providing a free ride to residents who want to get out. A shelter has been opened at the First Presbyterian Church in New Port Richey.

Contamination and strong currents have officials imploring residents not to try and swim or boat in the flood waters.
