A 1997 Jeep, driven by 24-year-old Mackenzie Williams of Lakeland, was traveling northbound in the inside lane of I-275 north of Gandy Boulevard.
Williams changed to the outside lane and during the lane change, she lost control of the vehicle. She entered a counter-clockwise rotation, traveled off of the roadway and onto the east shoulder. Once on the shoulder, the vehicle collided with two trees and upon impact, Williams, who was not restrained, was ejected. Her passenger, 23-year-old Jeremy Riley of Lakeland was restrained. Both were transported to Bayfront Medical Center where Williams later expired from injuries sustained in the traffic crash. Riley sustained minor injuries.
