Dog Tattoos To Be Illegal In New York

Dog owners considering a heart-shaped “Lassie Forever” tattoo for their dog will have to reconsider that request in New York State, where in four months it will be illegal to have such a procedure performed on your pet. There’s an exception when a vet needs to mark something for a medical reason or identification, but anything more elaborate than numbers or letters will be prohibited.

Pennsylvania and New Jersey have similar laws in place, following a 2011 case where a woman was piercing her cats and selling them on the internet as Gothic. No other states have such a prohibition. 15 days and up to $250 in fines for the first offense.
