Hillsborough Deputy Shot in Thonotosassa

A Hillsborough deputy was shot Thursday morning in Thonotosassa.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s office says they were responding to a shots fired call in the 9400 block of Greystone Road in Thonotosassa at about 12:30 a.m. when they heard shots being fired by an unknown suspect. This resulted in the officer, 42-year-old Scott Ranney, being shot and transported in stable condition. He has since been released from the hospital.

Ranney has been employed with HCSO since July 2009 as a detention deputy. In December 2014, he transitioned to a law enforcement deputy and was assigned to Patrol District 1.

HCSO says a perimeter has been set up in the area near Greystone Road and Hershey Road and they are looking for the suspect.

Police say the search for the suspect continues in the Greaystone Road area, however several streets in the immediate area that were previously closed have been reopened.
