Woman Dies In Central Florida Skydiving Accident

DELAND, Fla. — Authorities say a Georgia woman died in a central Florida skydiving accident.

DeLand police 33-year-old Jessica Edeington of Villa Rica, Georgia, died in the Wednesday afternoon accident that was apparently caused when the canopies of two parachutes collided in midair.

Lt. Bruce Morehouse says Edeington had flown out of Skydive DeLand.

Detectives were investigating the cause of the accident.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that this is the second parachuting death in DeLand this year and the ninth since 2005.

A U.S. Navy SEAL from New Hampshire died in January while parachute training in DeLand.
