Police Fatally Shot 22-Year-Old Suspect

Port_Orange_FL_shootingPORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) — A 22-year-old robbery suspect is dead after a police shooting on Interstate 95 in central Florida.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal ( http://bit.ly/1ar2USt ) reports Port Orange police officers shot Luke Castello when he “displayed” a gun after crashing a stolen van on Wednesday. Police were chasing him at the time.

The shooting happened along the shoulder of northbound I-95, near motorists who had slowed down because of the parked police cars.

Port Orange Public Safety Director Gerald Monahan says six officers were at the scene. He could not elaborate on how many fired their weapons.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, which is routine in officer-related shootings.

Police had been searching for Castello after an early-morning armed robbery and attempted kidnapping at a motel.
