MORE THAN $50K IN COINS STOLEN IN SARASOTA

Sarasota Police detectives are looking for four people believed to be involved in the theft of more than $50,000 in rare coins. Officials say the 150 coins were stolen from the Sarasota Municipal Auditorium during a coin show on Saturday. The coins are from around the globe and some date back to the early 1800s.

SANFORD WANTS TO DELAY POT DISPENSARIES

The city of Sanford may delay the opening of any pot dispensaries if Florida voters approve an amendment to legalize medical marijuana. City commissioners on Monday voted to ask city staffers to establish a six-month moratorium on the opening of any medical marijuana dispensaries within city limits. The moratorium could be extended for another six months if city commissioners deem it necessary.

MIAMI BALLET PREVIEWS STREET ART-INSPIRED DANCE

Choreographer Justin Peck is giving audiences a glimpse into his collaboration with contemporary street artist Shepard Fairey. The Miami City Ballet will premiere Peck’s “Heatscape” in March. Excerpts from the work will be performed Wednesday and Thursday at the ballet’s Miami Beach studios. The performances also include discussions with Peck and the “Heatscape” costume designers.

ARTIST HOSTS MEMORIAL FOR CROCODILE THAT BIT 2

A Miami artist is hosting a memorial for an American crocodile that died while fighting capture after biting two swimmers. The 12-foot, 300-pound crocodile was known as “Pancho” and had been relocated twice from the suburban Miami canal where it bit two people swimming at night in August. Artist Xavier Cortada will unveil a portrait of Pancho Wednesday night at the memorial for the crocodile.

MOM WHO DROVE VAN INTO OCEAN WANTS TO SEE KIDS

The South Carolina woman accused of trying to kill her three children by driving her minivan into the Atlantic Ocean off Daytona Beach wants to see them. Circuit Judge Leah Case will hear the request Friday morning. The judge barred Ebony Wilkerson from having any contact with the children during a hearing in May. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, woman was pregnant when she drove into the water on March 4. Her children told investigators she was trying to kill them. Attorneys say she hasn’t seen the children since.
