MORE BOND TESTIMONY IN FLORIDA OCEAN DRIVING CASE
Attorneys for a South Carolina woman accused of driving her car holding her three children into the ocean are set to argue for a smaller bond, saying she needs psychiatric care that she can’t get in jail. The hearing on 32-year-old Ebony Wilkerson’s bond is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Daytona Beach. Wilkerson remains in custody on a $1.2 million bond on six felony charges, including attempted murder.
FLORIDA PROSECUTOR RELEASES REPORT ON FBI SHOOTING
A Florida prosecutor and the U.S. Justice Department are releasing reports that should shed some light on how and why a Chechen man was fatally shot last year while being questioned by the FBI about a Boston Marathon bombing suspect. State Attorney Jeff Ashton in Orlando is making public his office’s investigation into Ibragim Todashev’s death Tuesday, around the same time the Justice Department is releasing its review of the case.
SAFETY BOARD HOLDS 2-DAY HEARING ON CRUISE SAFETY
The National Transportation Safety Board is holding a two-day hearing on passenger safety and emergency response aboard cruise ships. The NTSB hearing opens Tuesday in Washington with remarks from the Coast Guard and panels on regulation of cruise ships, accident investigations and fire protection. Wednesday’s session will feature representatives from the cruise industry on the same topics, as well as corporate oversight of cruise ships.
WILDLIFE OFFICIALS CAPTURE, RELOCATE FLORIDA PANTHER
A Florida panther found near the beach in Naples has been relocated to a more suitable habitat. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says biologists and law enforcement officers captured and relocated the endangered panther on Monday near the beach at Clam Pass Park in Collier County. It had been spotted in the mangroves by beachgoers who were walking over a boardwalk that leads to the beach.
MOTHER CHARGED WITH KILLING INFANT DAUGHTER
A Tampa Bay area woman faces charges after authorities say her 6-week-old daughter died from injuries sustained after repeatedly being thrown. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office charged 26-year-old April Weber with one count of murder and one count of aggravated child abuse. Weber called authorities Sunday and said she had “accidentally dropped” her baby while she was bouncing the infant on her leg.
