EX-PARTNER OF FLORIDA PONZI SCHEMER ROTHSTEIN CHARGED
A former partner of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein in a now-defunct South Florida law firm has been charged with conspiracy. Prosecutors filed documents Thursday charging Stuart Rosenfeldt with a crime that carries a maximum five-year prison sentence. The documents claim Rosenfeldt was involved in campaign finance violations and financial irregularities at the Rothstein Rosenfeldt Adler law firm.
FAMED BREAKERS HOTEL SITE OF PROSTITUTION ARRESTS
Police have made arrests for prostitution at a famed Palm Beach hotel known as a favorite retreat for the rich. The arrests happened early Wednesday at The Breakers. Palm Beach police say a 55-year-old man from Texas admitted paying $230 in exchange for sex with the 31-year-old Riviera Beach prostitute. Officers were dispatched after a report of a suspicious car with three men in it in a parking lot at the historic hotel.
SKYDIVING CANOPY PILOTING COMPETITION HELD IN FLORIDA
About 75 of the nation’s best canopy pilots — also called “swoopers” — are competing in Florida at the United States Parachuting Association’s canopy piloting national championship. Competition began Tuesday in Pasco County and continued throughout the week. An awards ceremony will be held Friday. Canopy piloting is a subset of the skydiving sport.
BECKHAM TEAM UNVEILS ALTERNATIVE STADIUM PLANS
David Beckham’s team says filling in a downtown Miami boat slip will provide enough space to build a Major League soccer stadium and add more parkland. Fellow investor and businessman Marcelo Claure and real estate adviser John Alschuler presented the new plans Thursday. The design calls for utilizing an empty plot of land behind the AmericanAirlines Arena where the Miami Heat play and the unused boat slip nearby.
SOUTH CAROLINA MOM WHO DROVE VAN INTO OCEAN GIVES BIRTH
A South Carolina mother who drove her minivan into the ocean off Daytona Beach with her children inside has given birth. The baby was placed with the Department of Children and Families. She has been in custody since three days after the March incident. She’s being held on a $1.2 million bail on three counts each of attempted second-degree murder and child abuse.
