FL Fender Bender Ends With Murder

PORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) _ A Florida man faces a second-degree murder charge after allegedly shooting another driver following a minor traffic crash.

Port Orange Police say a van driven by 63-year-old Robert M. Gelles of Holly Hill (pictured above) rear-ended a truck slowing down for a traffic light Sunday.

The truck’s 44-year-old driver got out to talk to Gelles, who remained in his van.

That’s when police say Gelles shot 44-year-old Joseph E. Bailey III (pictured above) of New Smyrna Beach.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital. An autopsy is scheduled Monday.

Police Chief Gerald Monahan tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal that there’s “no justifiable reason” for the shooting.

He says Gelles’ van had minor damage after the crash.

Gelles was held without bail.
