HOLLY HILL, Fla. (AP) – Thieves took off with a barber shop pole that had been spinning outside a central Florida barber shop for almost 60 years.
For 83-year-old owner Joseph Navarra, who opened Ridgewood Barber Shop with his father and brother, the pole stolen Tuesday night held great sentimental value.
Navarra’s father and brother have since died and he tells The Daytona Beach-News Journal the barber pole reminded him of a time when they were all together.
He says it also served a business purpose.
When it was rotating, customers knew the shop was open.
The barber, who still cuts hair twice a week, estimates a new pole would cost $500 to $1,000.
Navarra’s daughters have reached out to local media and on social media hoping that the pole will be returned.
