Cuban Arrested Wanted By US For Fraud

MADRID (AP) _ Spanish police say they have arrested a Cuban citizen wanted by the United States for allegedly embezzling some $10 million from health insurance companies.

A Civil Guard statement Tuesday said the man, identified only as Lazaro Miguel R.S., was detained in the southern resort city of Marbella on an international arrest warrant after the FBI tipped off Spanish police that he could be in Spain.

The statement said the Cuban made substantial claims on insurance companies for allegedly treating accident victims in an alternative medicine clinic he ran in the state of Florida. The statement said that in some cases he faked the accidents and treatments along with others.

There were no details on when the alleged fraud took place.
