Cruise Ship Convention in Miami

MIAMI (AP) _ Cruise line executives are discussing the state of industry at their annual convention in Miami Beach.

Presidents of a half dozen major cruise lines will discuss the outlook for the year at a roundtable Tuesday morning at the World Cruise Tourism Summit.

The meeting is expected to draw thousands of participants.

It’s been a bad public-relations year already for an industry that was expected to rebound after widespread discounting made necessary by the recession.

Just two weeks into the year, 32 people died when the Costa Concordia sank off the coast of Italy.

Then late last month, another Costa ship  ‘the Allegra ‘ caught fire and lost power, leaving passengers without working toilets, running water or air conditioning for three days.
