Credit Card Skimmers Found In Brooksville

Hess

According to Hernando County police, four skimmers were recently located on the gas pumps at the Hess Gas Station located at 26260 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville (Cortez Boulevard and Spring Lake Highway).

The skimmers were “internal,” which means there is no way they could have been detected by the customer. The manager located the skimmers during his normal inspections of the pumps. The skimmers were placed within the pumps between 6 p.m. on 2/18/14 and 7:15 a.m. on 2/19/14. The skimmers were ONLY placed on pumps 1, 2, 7, and 8. If you patronized this particular Hess Gas Station during this time period, please check your receipt to determine which pump you used. If you used the pumps in question, contact your financial institution to cancel the card and have a new one issued.

If anyone observed anything suspicious at the Hess Gas Station pumps, PLEASE contact Detective Tony Aguiar or call Crime Stoppers with the information.

As always, there are many ways that suspect(s) can steal your financial information. Many of them are undetectable to you no matter how cautious you are. The best way to protect yourself is to check your financial accounts as often as possible to identify and report suspected fraud charges.

This is no reflection on this or any other Hess Gas Station. Hess is not responsible for any losses, as they are also a victim in this crime. Please contact your local law enforcement agency to file a report if you have been victimized. Please DO NOT call to file a report unless you receive fraudulent charges.

If you have used your credit/debit card on one of the four affected pumps during the listed times, please e-mail Detective Tony Aguiar at taguiar@hernandosheriff.org .

AFTER your bank deactivates the card.
