A couple managed to find themselves in the back of a garbage truck Wednesday morning.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says that a garbage man with Progressive Waste Solutions was running his usual route when at 5:01 a.m. Wednesday morning, he heard yelling from the back of the truck. He pulled over and found a man and woman in the back end of the truck and the two got out.
Police discovered that 49-year-old Lisa Spirella and 37-year-old Donald L. Jordan were sleeping in the dumpster at the Wawa at the intersection of Orient and Hillsborough Avenue when it was emptied and they were thrown into the back of the truck.
Police say there are no visible injuries to either of them but they were transported to Tampa General Hospital with complaints of back pain.
It was originally believed they were homeless but it seems they were just really intoxicated after hanging out at a casino.
When police made contact with Jordan, he smelled of alcohol, was slurring his speech and was aggressive toward the officers. The couple told them they were visiting from Kissimmee but police have not confirmed that.
At the time of the incident, there was not much trash in the truck, police say. EMS was able to assist the two out of the truck.
