FORT PIERCE – Troopers say a hit-and-run driver crashed a tractor-trailer into two people who were changing a tire on the shoulder of Florida’s Turnpike near Fort Pierce, killing both of them.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened about 7:45 p.m. Monday.
The victims – a man and a woman – died at the scene along the northbound turnpike near mile marker 166.
Sgt. Mark Wysocky says the truck should have right front damage. It was described as a Peterbilt tractor pulling a flatbed truck.
The highway patrol is investigating.
