Commissioners Say No To Fluoride

(AP) – Pinellas County commissioners say residents won’t get to vote on the issue of fluoride in their drinking water.

On Tuesday, commissioner also voted _ for the third time this year _ to cease fluoridation in the county’s water supply on Dec. 31.

The St. Petersburg Times (http://bit.ly/rIHbdw ) reports commissioners had asked staff to draw up plans for a referendum on the issue.

Commissioner Susan Latvala asked the commission to revisit its vote to stop using fluoride. But the vote remained the same as before. Four commissioners voted to cease fluoridation, while three opposed the decision.

Some 700,000 county residents are affected by the decision. St. Petersburg uses fluoride in its water supply.
