CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) _ Pinellas County Commissioners say they want to put fluoride back into the drinking water, reversing a decision made more than a year ago.
The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/Y0cIzd ) reports that the commission met Tuesday, the first time since the election of two new members who ran on a pro-fluoride platform.
In Oct. 2011, the commission voted to take fluoride out of the drinking water.
The move affected some 700,000 people and touched off a political controversy that pitted dentists and orthodontists against people who feel fluoride is harmful, even toxic and that the county shouldn’t pay for residents’ personal health decisions.
Two of the commissioners who voted to remove the chemical from the drinking water have since reversed their positions.
The commission will next meet on Nov. 27.
