Clearwater Police Release Composite Sketch Of Would-Be Carjacker

Carjacker sketch

Clearwater Police detectives have released a composite sketch of the suspect in an attempted carjacking earlier this month at Westfield Countryside Mall.

Police released the sketch to gain more clues to the identity of the man who tried to carjack a woman at the mall on Feb. 2. Previously, surveillance video had been released in an effort to identify the suspect.

A 24-year-old Largo woman and her two children had just arrived at the mall about 1 p.m. on Feb. 2 when the suspect, armed with a handgun, approached them. She pleaded with him not to hurt her or her two preschool-age children. The man ran from the scene when a car pulled into a nearby parking spot.

The suspect is described as a black male, in his middle 20s, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build. He was clean shaven and had short black hair. He was wearing a baggy white polo shirt with blue and greenhorizontal stripes and dark jeans. He was also carrying a dark shoulder bag.

The sketch was developed after police talked with a witness who believes she saw the suspect before the carjacking attempt.
