According to the City of Clearwater, a man found what appeared to be a live grenade sitting atop a water heater at the house where his father formerly lived.
The man took a picture of the grenade, then carried the device outside the house at 2956 Catherine Drive. Then he went to Clearwater Fire & Rescue Station 49 to show personnel there the photo to see if it was real.
That’s when Clearwater Police and the Tampa Police Bomb Squad got involved.
Bomb squad members retrieved the grenade and planned to properly dispose of it. They said it appeared to be a live grenade.
The father, who died a few years ago, was a former member of the military.
