City of Tampa Announces Transportation, Parking Plans For IIFA

City of Tampa Announces Transportation Plans, Parking Options for International Indian Film Academy Awards

Tampa, Fla. (April 15, 2014) – Slated to make its debut in the United States, the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) will host the 15th year of the Tata Motors IIFA Awards in Tampa, Florida on April 23, 2014 – April 26, 2014. IIFA is the most appreciated South Asian film academy, and with a viewership of almost 800 million in 108 countries, it is among the world’s most-watched annual entertainment events.

Previous IIFA events have generated upwards of 50,000 visitors, 24,000 room nights, and more than $11 million in economic impact to the host community.   From a one night celebration in 2000 at the Millennium Dome in London, the last thirteen years have seen the IIFA movement grow into a cine-packed weekend of film-festivals, workshops, exhibitions, film-showcases, global business forums and sporting events, all of which climax into the highlight of the Weekend, the IIFA Awards.

The IIFA awards will hold events at the Tampa Convention Center, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Raymond James Stadium as well as at the Florida State Fairgrounds.

Security

The City of Tampa, Tampa Police Department, and Tampa Fire Rescue have developed a security plan balancing both safety and convenience. Tampa wants visitors to enjoy our city and the event knowing they are safe. The plan is built to minimize inconvenience to our citizens while ensuring the safety of IIFA events. This is a unique event so law enforcement has customized a security plan that will expand and contract depending on the size and location of each event throughout the week.

Tampa Police have built great law enforcement partners with our history of large-scale events.  They will work with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Tampa International Airport Police, TSA Seminole Hard Rock, among many other local, state, and federal agencies including regional task force members to ensure that IIFA is a successful event.

Police will also work closely with private security teams that will travel with the individual stars coming to our city for the event week. Due to the international nature of IIFA, these private teams will also assist with the safety of each event.
