Citrus: Deputies Investigating Possible Animal Neglect Case

Citrus County deputies are currently on scene of a home with hazardous ammonia levels due to too many cats.

Deputies are investigating the home at 8980 Zanmar Drive in Floral City about a possible animal neglect case. Before anyone could enter the home, Fire Rescue units had to check for hazardous ammonia levels. Ammonia is a colorless gas that smells terrible.

The sheriff’s office says the reading inside the home was 650 ppm. A reading of 300 ppm means that the levels are an immediate danger to life or health.

Crews are currently ventilating the building. No one can enter the home and rescue the cats until ammonia levels are normal.
