California Man Gets 17 Years in Florida Prison

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A California man who spent nearly three decades on the lam before being convicted of a manslaughter charge in Lee County last month has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

The News-Press reports James Edward Sims, 68, was sentenced Monday for his role in the 1981 shooting death of Roy Radabaugh outside a Fort Myers strip club.

Sims was accused of shooting and killing Radabaugh during a dispute about a stripper. Prosecutors say Sims left Florida after the shooting. He settled in California and assumed the identity of an Omaha, Neb., man who died in a 1972 crash.

Sims went undetected until Florida officials traced a fingerprint he had given to the California Department of Motor Vehicles to one on file with local law enforcement.
