Bus Driver Reassigned After Leaving Child on Board

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a 3-year-old disabled boy was left on a Sarasota school bus for more than two hours after the bus driver forgot about him.

School district officials on Thursday reassigned the 60-year-old Sandra Runck from her bus driver job. They say it was the second time in a year Runck returned to the county’s bus depot with a child who was supposed to be dropped off at school.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reports Runck was not given a formal sanction last year when she returned to the depot with an elementary school student still on board the bus.

District Transportation Director Ellery Girard says the child left on Runck’s bus last Friday was never alone since the driver was either on the bus or right outside the entire time.
