Bright House Customers Overcharged From Checking Accounts

Bright House Networks may have a significant customer-service problem on its hands.

Some subscribers who pay their monthly cable bills by check are discovering they have been billed multiple times. That has led banks and credit unions to transfer funds from customers’ savings to their checking account to cover any shortages and also to tack on overdraft penalties for insufficient funds.

Joe Green of Melbourne said he checked his account this morning and found his savings was depleted of at least $800 to cover the accounting error – his monthly $191 cable bill had been processed at least four times – and he immediately went to Space Coast Credit Union where he does his banking to find out what was wrong.
