BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) _ Divers have recovered the body of a 5-year-old girl who apparently wandered away from her home and drowned in a retention pond in Bradenton.

The Bradenton Herald (http://bit.ly/LSf6gf ) reported that divers from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of the girl in about 7 feet of water Monday afternoon.

The girl’s body was found about where witnesses said they had seen her in the water of a subdivision retention pond. A witness said he saw the girl and swam out to her, but then he couldn’t find her.

Her name was not immediately released.

Bradenton police Lt. John Affolter said it was third case in a month of people drowning in retention ponds in the city. The other two were adults.
