At 11:33 pm on Monday, April 7th, City of Bradenton Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a structure fire in the Carlton Arms apartment complex off SR64 East. Upon arrival at 11:38 pm, the first arriving units found heavy smoke and flames showing from the rear of single apartment in a 12-unit, two-story, multi-family residential structure. A second alarm was called due to the extreme fire conditions encountered and the size of the building involved.
Bradenton Police officers assisted in evacuating the building, as fire crews brought the situation under control at 12:05 am. The apartment involved suffered extensive fire, heat, smoke and water damage – estimated at $125,000.00. The American Red Cross responded to assist the one resident, who was unharmed and not at home at the time of the incident. As the adjacent apartment suffered minor smoke damage, the two adults and one child in residence were assisted by Carlton Arms with lodging on-site. The remaining ten apartments in the building had no reported damage and the residents were able to return to their homes.
