Boy, 6, Nearly Drowns In Seminole Pool

Pinellas County detectives are investigating the near drowning of a 6-year-old boy in the pool of his Seminole residence.

According to detectives, 6-year-old Matthew Dixon and his friends were playing with water guns and super soakers around the pool area of his home when Dixon fell into the water.

The incident happened at 12160 92nd Avenue North in Seminole at 2:48 p.m. Saturday.

According to investigators, 10-year-old Destiny Reny noticed that Dixon was not coming out and went into the pool to try to get him out. When she could not get him out, she went to get Dixon’s older brother, 14-year-old Michael Woodward. Detectives say Woodward pulled Dixon from the water. Dixon’s mother, 42-year-old Kelly Woodward and a neighbor then alternated performing CPR until Seminole Fire Rescue personnel arrived on scene.

Dixon was transported by ambulance to Largo Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries, and from there, was subsequently transported by air to All Children’s Hospital.

Detectives say there were adults nearby while the children were playing around the pool, and that the incident appears to be accidental in nature.

The investigation continues.
