Boston’s Bid For 2024 Olympics Is Kaput

Boston’s bid to host the 2024 Olympics is over. The final collapse unraveled rather quickly on Monday, when Mayor Martin Walsh stated that he would not sign any agreement that would make taxpayers responsible for any Olympics cost overruns, which the United States Olympic Committee was pushing him to do. The USOC’s response to that was basically, well then, your bid is over. The truth is, the bid soured long before that. Poor communications, active opposition, bad polling numbers from the public, and wary politicians. Now the USOC must scramble to find another city with interest, or any chance of hosting in 2024 will be lost.
