TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is asking the public for advice on how to spend $300 million.
The money is part of Florida’s share of a $25 billion national settlement with the five largest mortgage lenders that was finalized seven weeks ago.
Bondi said on Monday that she wants to hear from the public between now and May 14 on the best way to distribute the money.
She is asking for people to offer their suggestions at her website – www.myfloridalegal.com .
The settlement allows the money to be spent in a variety of ways, including spending it on legal assistance, housing remediation or consumer protection efforts.
Colorado is using its share for loan modifications, while Missouri is using part of its share to help with a budget gap.
