Audio: CDC Says 1 in 25 Hospital Patients Gets Sick

AM 820 News anchor Roger P. Schulman talked with ABC News Correspondent Scott Goldberg about patients getting sick while in hospitals.

About one in every 25 patients seeking treatment at hospitals acquired an infection there in 2011. That’s the finding of a new study by the Centers for Disease Control published on Wednesday. Patients acquired some 721,800 infections at hospitals that year, with the most common infections reported being pneumonia and surgical site infections. Of those infected, about 75,000 died, according to the CDC.
